PM 2.5 activated carbon filters consist of five layers. The first layer of spun-bound fabric filters out micron-sized dust; the second filters industrial pollutants, car exhaust, smoke and pollen allergens; the third is composed of activated carbon that filters out micron-sized particles; the fourth provides filter density for smaller particles; and the fifth layer of spun-bound fabric filters out harmful substances.⁣
